Travel around Portland, Oregon

Walking

Portland is a great city for walking.  City founders created the pedestrian-friendly 200 linear foot block grid back in the 1800s and then plotted out a system of parks and greenways to span the city.

MAX Light Rail

Take advantage of MAX, Portland’s light rail service, offering free service within downtown’s 330-block Free Rail Zone.  MAX connects downtown Portland with the Portland International Airport.  Trains run about every 15 minutes from 5:00 –24:00, every day.  The nearest MAX yellow/green line stop to the Marriott is at SW Fifth and Jefferson (SB) or SW Sixth and Madison (NB).  The yellow or green line will take you to the Lan Su Chinese Garden, Pioneer Square, and numerous shops and restaurants downtown and in the Pearl District.  The nearest MAX red/blue line stop is at SW Third and Morrison (WB) or SW First and Yamhill (EB), a half-mile walk from the conference hotel.  The red line will take you directly to and from Portland International Airport.

Streetcar

Portland Streetcar also offers free service within downtown’s Free Rail Zone and connects Northwest Portland, the Pearl District, Portland City Center, PSU, RiverPlace and the South Waterfront District.  Hours of operation vary, but streetcars run about every 13 minutes during the day (less frequently in the evening and on weekends).   The streetcar takes you to Powell’s and the many shops and restaurants in the western end of the Pearl District.  The nearest streetcar stop is at SW Fifth and Market (EB/SB)) or SW Sixth and Mill in the PSU Urban Center (WB/NB).

Taxi

Taxis are a convenient way to get directly from one location to another in the Portland Metropolitan area.  Standard rates for taxis in Portland are $2.50 USD for the first 1/10 of a mile and $2.50 for each additional mile.
